Set of four of Chippendale Chairs

Four fine side chairs with pierced splat, superb proportions, carved of dark heavy mahogany.  A faithful, beautifully executed design from Plate VII of Thomas Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-maker's Director, London 1763. The chairs include Chippendale's splat, knee carving and delicate cabriole leg.  Stuffover seats upholstered in a gold and rose striped silk damask over horsehair stuffing.  England, late 19th or early 20th century.
